How is your class celebrating Matariki?
It’s the middle of the year, and today marks winter solstice – the shortest day of the year. With Matariki starting on Sunday, for many of us this is a time to gather, to reflect, to remember those who have passed, and prepare for the year ahead.
Classrooms around New Zealand are learning about festivals, seasons, and stars.
If you’re using TTS Universal, then you have access to the Festivals Module, which features:
- Festivals – a poem, literacy level 29-30 (including a teacher resource)
- Festivals – eQuest (non-fiction), literacy level 27-30
- Star Stories – eScout (non-fiction), literacy level 25-32 (including a teacher resource)
- Ngā Kai o Matariki – An inquiry into the foods of Matariki (including a teacher resource)
- The Festivals Unit Plan
